In this section you will find answers to some of our most frequently asked questions. Please refer to both these and the other sections of this module. If you have any remaining questions that we have not answered please contact Mel Jones on melanie.jones@history.org.uk

Where can I find the information and documents I need?
Once you have registered, you should allow up to 5 working days for your registration to be processed. All of the documentation you need to apply is in this module. Once your registration is processed, you should log in to your HA account and click on My HA. You will find the Chartered Teacher file upload in your MyHA space. This is where you should upload your application. All the documents you need to complete your application can be downloaded from the registration and application section of this module.
-
Can I send an application by post?
No, all applications must be submitted electronically.
-
Do I need to supply address/contact details for my referees?
Yes
-
How should I choose my referees?
You will need two referees. At least one should be a line manager who is able to attest to your evidence of professional knowledge as well as your ongoing commitment to the development of this and the impact it is having.
-
Can signatures be added electronically or does it need to be printed and signed?
Yes, you can add electronic signatures.
-
What should my evidence consist of?
You should complete the CPD record, outlining the history CPD you have participated in over the last 12 months. To support your 1000 word statement, you should only supply links to 2 pieces of additional evidence, but they need to demonstrate your on-going commitment to the development of your professional knowledge and learning as well as your commitment to sharing expertise, so you need to choose carefully. The type of evidence you might supply will also differ according to your education phase and teaching experience/context. Please consult our CTHist Pathways document on the registration and application page to find out more about the types of evidence that you might supply.
-
Is there a way I can let my referee see my application without logging in to my HA account?
Unfortunately, there is not the facility on your My HA account to share resources with others. You will need to save your application to a memory stick or local shared file space in order to share it with your referee before the application is then uploaded into your My HA space.

What counts as CPD for my CPD Record?
We recognise that getting subject-specific CPD is not always easy. The CPD record that you keep must consist of subject-specific CPD that you have undertaken and CPD that you have delivered yourself over the last 12 months. We recognise a wide variety of opportunities to benefit from history CPD. Below are some of the things that we might recognise. Please note that this is not an exhaustive list. If you have a query about the appropriateness of any particular CPD you have undertaken or delivered, please contact Mel Jones on melanie.jones@history.org.uk
CPD Type
· Full day face to face course
· 2 day residential course
· Twilight session
· Webinar
· Listening to a history-focused podcast
· Attending a history lecture for example at an HA branch event or local history society
· Collaborative activity such as preparing resources
· Taking an online history course for example through the HA or FutureLearn
· Attendance at a history network meeting
· Examination training and activity. -
How should I present and lay out my application?
Your application will consist of 2 main documents. Your application form must include a written statement from one of your referees using the space provided and your CPD record should be completed including your 1000 word statement and the links required to other specified documents.

What is the CTHist cycle timeline?
This is a rolling programme and you can join and submit at any time; however, the assessment window is fixed each year in June with the option to have your certificate presented at our annual awards evening in September.
Your CTHist registration allows for 2 opportunities to apply. If you miss the first available window or are unawarded in the first, you can submit or re-submit in the second. This means that you can apply on 2 consecutive years under one single registration. The following timeline is for a typical cycle.
If you have any queries about the process or application, please consult the rest of the module and our other FAQs on this page.
- Steps 1-3: (Registration, Preparing Evidence, Application)
- Step 4: (Preliminary check to application). Applications will be checked shortly after the deadline.
- Step 5: Application sent back for more evidence/corrections or forwarded as correct.
- Step 6: Assessment panel meets
- Step 7: Successful award or deferment. Next cycle launched at same time.
