The impact of World War II on British children's gendered perceptions of contemporary Germany

This article reports some surprising gender-based trends indicated by a small scale piece of classroom research looking into incidental responses of Year 6 pupils to the teaching of Study Unit 11b (Britain Since 1930 focusing upon the impact of the Second World War). Recent research in this area has tended to draw unclear conclusions about how the teaching of this study unit may affect pupils' perceptions of modern Germany and its people. I aim to present my own experience in this area and in doing so suggest to other primary teachers some possible considerations for their own classroom practice.
