If you were asked to select just one story which you thought all children should know about British history, what would it be? Would it be Guy Fawkes or Florence Nightingale? The battle of Hastings or Caesar’s invasions? Would you focus on people, events or ways of life? Local or national stories? How would you make your selection? This question was posed to a number of European history teachers and the article below is a story from an Estonian teacher, Eda Maripu. You might like to share the story with the children in your class and ask them to consider why Eda has chosen this story as an important one in the history of her country.
