This article is about using story to construct a learning journey for a Year 7 class. It reports an innovative use of a virtual learning environment to construct a narrative e-book into which argument tasks were embedded. The article is about dialogue: dialogue between protagonists in the e-book, dialogue between pupils, who were encouraged to argue with each other by discussions embedded in the e-book, and about dialogue between a mentor and a student teacher. The article is also about dialogue between research and practice and shows how they can mutually invigorate each other...
