QCA's scheme of work for history at Key Stage 3, together with similar schemes for other subjects, has been published in response to widespread requests for more guidance on curriculum planning. Heather Richardson, Subject Officer (history) at QCA explains how the scheme works. She explains some of the principles that underpin the sample schemes and she outlines flexible ways in which teachers might adopt and adapt them. She also emphasises important points about assessment. Teachers should remember that the scheme is entirely optional. It is designed to model the many different ways in which the programmes of study can be planned and taught.
