The Pittsburgh Conference on 'Teaching, Knowing and Learning'
Teaching History article

How long before we need the US Cavalry?
Peter Lee and Ros Ashby report on a landmark conference on the future of history education in the USA held at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh in 1998. They emphasise the substantial influence UK developments in history education continue to have in many parts of the world. They also warn that this could become a lost heritage. In the face of growing bureaucratisation and political interference in history education in England, history teachers must not lose their collective sense of direction, nor, in their attempts to jump to the latest policy tune, their sense of the discipline's own agenda.
