Any academic who is in the business of writing will appreciate the pressure put on them by publishers desirous of a market product. Books for teachers need to be at once scholarly and popular, practicable and theoretical, readable but not reductionist. This puts considerable demand on the writer - I speak from experience. It is heartening, therefore, to discover a book that combines these qualities whilst providing a synthesis of an aspect of teaching which needs attention; I refer to Grant Bage’s Narrative Matters: Teaching and Learning History through Story.
