Episode 9: Power and Protest in Wales – 1714 to 1785

In Episode 8, Dr Eryn White (Aberystwyth University) discusses who had power in Wales in 1714, the changing relationship between Wales and the wider United Kingdom and the key developments that took place in Wales between 1714-1785.

Dr White reflects upon the rapid expansion of print and literacy in Wales and the central role it played in nurturing Welsh as a language, and creating the grounds for the Welsh cultural renaissance that we see in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Dr White discusses the early industrial revolution in Wales, the protests that accompanied it and Welsh involvement in the British Empire before examining just how different the Wales of 1785 was from the Wales of 1714.
