The Journalist, the Jew and an argument about identity
In this Virtual Branch Tim Franks, acclaimed BBC Journalist, talks about his personal history and identity drawing on his new biography The Lines we Draw: The Journalist, The Jew and an argument about identity.
We will delve into Tim's experiences as a journalist in some of the world's major conflict zones, where he set his own identity aside to cover his stories but subsequently felt compelled to do some historical exploration closer to home.
Tim Franks has presented Newshour, the flagship news and current affairs programme on the BBC World Service, since 2013. Before that Tim spent almost 20 years as a reporter, cutting his teeth covering The Troubles and as a foreign correspondent reporting from Washington, Brussels and Jerusalem, winning one of the most prestigious international war-reporting awards – the Bayeux – for his coverage of the 2008-2009 war in Gaza.
