In her presentation, Heather declares that the abolition of slavery, which should have been the greatest success of the Age of Revolutions, was actually its greatest failure. She cites the 1833 Slave Emancipation Act and reminds us that Britain still profited from slavery for decades afterwards because attitudes to black people and slaves had not changed, and also questions how we can call the abolition movement a social revolution when slavery is still rife today.
