Today, students across Scotland received their Nationals, Higher and Advanced Higher examination results. Across the board, pass rates are up following last year’s dip. In history, those attaining A grades at Higher level rose from 23.6% in 2024 to 37% in 2025, although there was a small drop in the number of entries. Results at advanced Higher level remained relatively similar to 2024 for history with 32.5% achieving A grades. National 5s saw history’s mean average grade hovering around the B/C borderline.

Our huge congratulations to all students who received their National, Higher and Advanced Higher results today; we know that your success reflects the hard work that you have put in – but your history teachers deserve thanks too; their knowledge, expertise, commitment and belief in your ability to succeed has helped you to achieve great success. If your results aren’t quite what you hoped for – just remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day. There will be plenty more opportunities for you to continue to study and enjoy history and achieve success in a variety of ways.
