GCSE Results 2012
Congratulations to the students who have received their GCSE results. In particular we at the Historical Association are proud of those who now have a GCSE in history - those students are part of the long tradition of British young people who continue to understand the importance of studying the past.
A qualification in history requires hard work and hours of study so well done to everyone today. We also want to praise the teachers that get students to the level needed to take a GCSE - their contribution is what continues to make history one of the most popular and best taught subjects in schools.
As a subject association we know the importance of studying history and the skills it requires and develops and how important those skills can be for future study, life and employment skills.
"A knowledge and understanding of history from school will always come in useful, whatever future direction someone might go in - from being able to interpret aspects of the world around you, to knowing how to question and critique basic evidence. I hope that the success of today will inspire many to continue to study history in the future." Rebecca Sullivan CEO of the Historical Association
The Historical Association is committed to continuing the strong performance of history in schools at all levels. And will continue to work closely with Government and Ofsted to ensure that history teachers are listened to and represented. It campaigns on their behalf for improved CPD, curriculum time and resource provision at all educational levels.
In September this year the HA will be releasing an important report on the state of history teaching across England - contact the HA to receive the report and its findings in advance.
