By University of York Institute for the Public Understanding of the Past, published 17th June 2024

The HA has teamed up with the University of York Institute for the Public Understanding of the Past to provide scholarship updates for teachers. In this module you will find a collection of podcasts on different topics that complement the school curriculum. They are designed to provide teachers with the up-to-date specific topic and hinterland knowledge they need to ensure that school history stays in touch with academic scholarship and therefore vibrant and meaningful. Undergraduate students, working with their tutors, explain the areas of recent academic activity connected to a topic and present the new knowledge created. They focus on the inclusive scholarship and the particular aspects of topics that have meaning for the present.

Topics covered include:

  • The Black Death in China
  • Environmental Research in the Arctic in the Cold War
  • Female Perpetrators of the Holocaust
  • Jewish presence in Elizabethan England
  • Spain and the New Word La Malinche - a focus on a female translator upon whom Cortes relied.
