Period Study

The Period Studies fit halfway between the thematic and depth studies in terms of the length of time they represent. There is a huge range of options between the awarding bodies. Options include AQA’s Germany 1890-1945 to Pearson’s Spain and the ‘New World’, c1490–c1555. There are both challenges and opportunities for the History teacher when planning these modules. Students will gain a real depth of historical understanding and develop concepts such as cause and consequence. There contextual knowledge should be much richer. Teachers will also need to be mindful that student’s interest could drop over the allocated teaching time. Read more
