A9: Democracy in Britain

1. Find out what democracy means and write a definition.

2. Find out what percentage of the population could vote at each of the following dates: 1800, 1832, 1867, 1884, 1918, 1928. Plot this on a graph or other chart.

You will be able to find the information you need in a good history textbook that covers the 19th century but these websites may also help your research. Use the information to explain how democratic Britain was at each point.
