Driving your development – taster films

How to do well on your first-post interview day, and making the transition to ECT

These two short films form part of our Driving your development unit, designed as a practical toolkit for new teachers to support you to survive and thrive applying for and into your first history teaching post. The unit aims to cover all of the major aspects of successfully applying for your first history teaching post and how to thrive in your first year. All of the films offer short targeted advice from a variety of perspectives including new teachers, experienced teachers, senior leaders and teacher trainers.

These two films, on How to do well on your first-post interview day and Making the transition from ITE to ECT, are available below to everyone (requires free registration). The remainder of the films are available here to HA Secondary members only. Topics covered include applying for your first post – what to include in your application letter, and what HTs are looking for when they recruit ECTs; and starting in your first post – tackling the first few weeks; time management and organisation; how to adapt existing history teaching resources; auditing and building subject knowledge; how to cope when the tech fails, and many more.
