Introduction

I imagine many people have memories of staring at a blank piece of paper - and wondering what to write.....and where to start?

  • There are many questions to consider.
  • How do children become eager and confident writers in the context of history?
  • When is writing the best response, and when is it preferable to talk, question, debate, argue, act out, record, draw, sketch, paint or film?
  • Which genre of writing is most appropriate to suit the purpose of the task?
  • In assessment, how may the pupils' historical understanding or interpretation be evaluated through their writing?
  • How may pupils' writing in a historical context help to develop their thinking and reasoning skills?
