The Storming of Cirencester

Review by Noah, age 10, Charlton Kings Junior School, Cheltenham
This is an amazing book full of really interesting stories by people who experienced the Storming of Cirencester.  I never knew Cirencester was stormed during the English Civil War and I was truly immersed in the book as I felt like I was there which was a great feeling to have. I would definitely recommend this book to other pupils who are interested in history and even if they haven’t read a book by the same author, like me, will still enjoy the book. I learnt a lot more about the English Civil War in this book like how a Lord hid in The King’s Head inn. I didn’t learn any new words however I would read this book again. The time it was set in was also interesting as in my knowledge there is quite a big gap here in but the book has helped to fill the gap in my knowledge.  My favourite part is where a spy for the Cavaliers changes sides after seeing what happened at Cirencester which was also very interesting as I didn’t know that there were spies who spy in their own country.  The plot was very exciting, and I could hardly put the book down! Overall, the book is very interesting, and I would definitely recommend this book to others.

This book was very enjoyable and effectively portrays how war impacts different lives. I learnt a lot from the book, especially about the Roundheads. I would recommend it to people ages 10-11 because of how the book talks about murder and violence.
