Hide and Seek

Review by Finley, year 9 St Mary’s RC High School
The time that the book takes place is interesting because I love this type of setting and this makes the characters of the books meet new characters. I found Ned the most interesting character because I could relate to him and because he had a tough life. I didn’t really dislike any characters because I thought they were all very good. I didn’t really learn anything new from the book because I already knew a lot about both wars. The plot was very exciting and breathtaking because of the characters, setting and overall having plot twists every so often. The thing that stands out the most to me in this book is how people’s lives can change because of their religion and even where they come from. I would definitely recommend this to others because it’s a great way to learn about history and overall, it is just a great book. I didn’t really dislike anything throughout the book I found it very interesting.

Hide and seek is a wonderful book because it showcases the journey of a boy called Ned desperate to help his mum and do his part for the war effort. My favourite character was Ned as he provoked a sense of relatability. Harri had good character growth as he learned to put others before himself.

My favourite part of the book was the train station bit. The book being set in the world gave it a tense feeling that was ever looming. The book was well written and easy to understand, and I think the main theme is to be careful who you trust as you never truly know who you’re talking too. I would recommend it to others.
