Virtual Branch recording: The British Templars

From Crusaders to Conspiracies

By Dr Steve Tibble, published 29th January 2024

The word Templars conjures up a variety of images and ideas – much of which are fiction rather than fact.

In this talk Dr Steve Tibble will unpick some of the stories surrounding this group and place them in a proper historical and factual context. He will explore why the history of this group of men has led to some of the more outlandish tales that now follow them as well as how many of the stories have some basis in actual events.

Steve Tibble is a graduate of Cambridge and London Universities, and is a research associate at Royal Holloway College, University of London and is one of the foremost academics currently working in the field of the crusades. His latest book, Templars – The Knights Who Made Britain, is now available and attendees will be given the opportunity to buy this title direct from the publisher at a discounted price.

This recording was taken on 12 December 2023.
