Professor Stibbe explores the silences of many households and how that influenced the student rebellion of the late 1960s. He also puts into perspective the cultural impact that the war generation had when they started to open up about what they had seen and been a part of during the Second World War. He goes on to examine how a new Germany changed its role again when it took part in NATO bombings over Serbia in the 1990s.
