Immerse yourself in history
The Historical Association
The Historical Association [HA] is a registered charity incorporated by Royal Charter. Since 1906 we have brought together people who share an interest in the past, and work to further the study, teaching and enjoyment of history in all guises and forms: professional, public and popular.
As an independent charity we are largely funded through membership, publishing and events. Membership allows us to continue our work in ensuring every young person can study history, supporting diversity and inclusion in the content and study of history, and assisting our branches whose lively programme of events brings great history to anyone who wishes to become involved. Membership is open to all and not only furthers your love of history but helps us reach a wider audience.
You can find out more about our different membership options here.
One of our membership options which is open to everybody with a love of or interest in history is Historian membership - an enjoyable way to while away the hours while learning and expanding your history knowledge.
This membership option includes a subscription to our quarterly magazine The Historian delivered directly to your door and access to the full archive online.
Through our online platforms HA members also gain access to an extensive range of quality history resources including:
- A library of history articles and pamphlets
- Over 350 history podcasts covering a range of themes and topics from ancient to modern
- A programme of free history webinars with expert academics
- Members’ magazine HA News and monthly e-newsletters
Members can also access our local branch events. Many branch events are currently operating online lectures in lieu of in-person meetings. Branch events can be a fantastic opportunity to meet others in your area with a shared interest in history. We are also running a central online virtual branch which features a range of live and pre-recorded lectures.
As well as enjoying a range of benefits and becoming part of a community of thousands of other people interested in history, membership also supports our charitable remit to support the teaching, learning and enjoyment of history at all levels, for generations to come.
