Description: In this meeting of the Teach Environmental Histories Network, historian Tim Cole will share his research on Holocaust landscapes. We all know that historical events take place somewhere, but how important is that somewhere - and especially its materiality - in enabling or hindering or shaping those events? That is a question Tim Cole been asking vis-a-vis the Holocaust and will speak briefly of the ways that environmental history approaches might help us better understand both Nazi practice and victim experience.Tim's talk will be followed by a breakout discussion about how teachers might apply these ideas to their classrooms.

Lecturer: Professor Tim Cole has worked on historical and memory landscapes, writing on Holocaust representation, and the spatiality of ghettoisation and of survival. He also co-led an interdisciplinary digital humanities project on geographies of the Holocaust.
