Description: Join an unforgettable, time-travelling FREE family adventure! To celebrate MOX’s 50th birthday, we are unlocking Oxford’s past with a FREE family fun day. Characters from Oxford’s centuries-long history will be paying a visit to our galleries – it’s your chance to meet the legendary St Frideswide and Civil War soldiers! Discover what our city was like during their time and what they got up to in their everyday lives – are they so different from ours? You can also get stuck into hands-on activities and fun, history-inspired workshops. Our archaeologist-in-residence Dr Digby Rocks will be sharing all the secrets of the trade – what artefacts will you find? Try your hand at Saxon coin striking and pottery, handle real and replica museum objects, listen to the sounds of Medieval Oxford played by Ghaetta and flaunt Edwardian elegance or 70s flair at our dress-up counter. 10am – 4pm, FREE drop-in – no booking required The event is suitable for families with children aged 5+ Please note that if the Museum spaces reach capacity at any point during the day, we will operate a one-in-one-out policy, and you might have to wait to be admitted. Further information Access There is step-free, level entry access to the Town Hall via the entrance closest to Carfax Tower (to the left of the main steps as you face the Town Hall). Inside the Museum, Museum Makers is accessible via a platform lift to the Galleries and then a lift to the basement. Accessible toilets are available in the Museum (close to Museum Makers) and in the Town Hall on the ground floor, before entering the Museum. Scaffolding at the Oxford Town Hall From August 2025, scaffolding will be in place outside Oxford Town Hall. Both entrances to the Town Hall (main steps and level access entrance) will remain fully open and accessible while these essential maintenance works are carried out.
