Description: A talk about the importance of wool in Roman culture, and how it symbolised domestic stability and the reputation of a good woman, also covering practical aspects of wool processing in the Roman world, and the connection between mythological and historical sources. Dr Fleiner specialises in Roman History with an interest in the Julio-Claudians, women in the Roman period, and sport/entertainment in the Roman world. She also works at heritage and museum sites to demonstrate textile practices from the Roman and medieval periods here in Britain and in Southern Germany. Her most recent book is A Writer's Guide to Ancient Rome.
