Description: Amy Johnson, Hull born, qualified as an engineer in the 1920s; she learned to fly, but was comparatively inexperienced when she flew solo to Australia in 1930. Her achievement was universally acknowledged, and as a woman even more admired. The 1930s was an era of pioneering aviators.
