Description: This talk will look at the ways in which the citizens and streets of Swansea were pictured in the press, from the bombing of the Second World War to the period of postwar reconstruction. It coincides with a major exhibition on the leading British photo-magazine, Picture Post, taking place at Amgueddfa Cymru Cardiff from May 2025. Among other photo-essays and features, we will discuss a special issue of Picture Post on rebuilding Swansea from January 1944, as well as coverage of the city a decade later as part of a series titled, ‘The Best and Worst of British Cities’.
