Description: Welcome to a day of fascinating talks about how the South-West was involved in the Napoleonic Wars. A programme of six speakers range across diverse subjects such as: Bristol's Band of Brothers (Ian Chard), Cavalié Mercer's life from Plymouth to Waterloo (Robert Pocock); black soldiers in the regiments of the South-West (John Ellis); the Old French Prison at Stapleton (Mike Robinson); the battle of Wavre 1815 (Andrew Field); and the life and times of General Charles Lefebvre-Desnouettes, a celebrity prisoner at Cheltenham (Colonel Sir William Mahon). A lunchtime 'show and tell' gives delegates the opportunity o display and discuss period artefacts.
