Description: Since the early 20th Century the USA has been stunningly successful yet from the outbreak of the War of Independence in 1775 to the conclusion of the War of 1812, the American republic faced numerous crises and recurrent threats of disintegration. Only with the new world order ushered in by the defeat of Napoleon was the future of the United States secure. As a sign of the nation’s new-found confidence, the Monroe Doctrine of 1823 declared that the western hemisphere would from now on be controlled by the United States.
