Elizabeth Andrews: Working Class Warrior
Event Type: Branch
Takes Place: 20th July 2024
Time: 11am
Venue: National Waterfront Museum, Swansea
Description: Elizabeth Andrews was a remarkable woman, born in Hirwaun into a mining family in the late nineteenth century. One of nine children she saw at first hand the world where women had no expectations other than a life of poverty and drudgery centred on meeting the needs of the family, an experience that determined Elizabeth to carve her own path. Through her political affiliations and guided by her Christian principles, she dedicated herself to improving the lives and living conditions of women in coalfield communities and beyond, emphasising the importance of education and political influence as instruments of change, and she truly is an unsung, undervalued hero of Welsh social history.
