SHP Conference 2010

Why you shouldn't miss the 2010 SHP Conference.

As usual, the Historical Association will be exhibiting at the Schools History Project, 2-4 July 2010 at Leeds Trinity University College. With five plenary sessions, 28 workshops, sessions from each of the Awarding Bodies and an extensive resources exhibition, the SHP Conference brings together the sharpest thinking and best practice in school history.

Plenary sessions focus on the big issues in history education as well as providing practical strategies for effective teaching and learning. This years' plenary speakers include the Hampshire History Team on historical enquiry, Paul Salmons on teaching about the Holocaust, Nicola Sheldon and Jenny Keating on the History in Education Project, Ian Dawson on teaching the English Civil War and Christine Counsell on learning about change and continuity.

There are twenty eight workshops from some of the country's greatest teachers and history educators. Workshops cover a range of topics across KS3, GCSE and A level.  This year, there is a strong focus on: diversity, interpretations, meaningful cross-curricular work; local history; teaching about change and continuity.  You will be able to attend five workshops and will leave with a range of practical strategies and resources for developing history in your school.

At this year's Conference Fringe each of the Awarding Bodies will provide sessions on teaching their new GCSE specifications with a particular emphasis on the controlled assessment. New sessions for this year's Fringe include SHP Micro-workshops, a ‘New to SHP' session and a TeachMeet session. As usual, the SHP conference will host an extensive Resources Exhibition, enabling you to check out all the latest learning resources.
