Write Your Own Historical Story - The Historical Association Historical Fiction Competition 2009. Get your Year 7, 8 and 9 students to bring the past to life again by writing historical fiction!

Students can set their stories in ANY period or place in the past - the Roman Empire, the British Empire, a medieval village, an industrial town, a First World War trench, a Civil War battlefield, a......

The stories will be judged by a panel and each of the six winning students, two from each Year, will receive a cash prize of £25 and an engraved Bath Aqua Blue glass paperweight. Their teacher will receive a year's FREE subscription to the Historical Association.

Entry is limited to three stories per school and entries must be received by Friday 22nd May 2009. For an entry form see the attachment below or visit the Historical Fiction website.

Last year's competition was a great success, with 113 entries from 51 schools across England and Wales. Stories were based in all periods and places in the past, ranging from Ancient Egypt to post war Europe and America post 9/11. Pupils worked on stories in year groups, as members of a history club or on their own. All had been remarkably creative.
